Down Road

The Lower Down Road site is surrounded by housing and ideally located between The Deans, The Downs, St Mary's Park and Lower Down Road. There are two points of access onto the site, the easiest being at the bottom of The Deans, but this is pedestrian access only. The other is by means of a single trackway off lower Down Road and this does have vehicular access, if somewhat difficult.

The site is some 3 acres in size and was originally marked out as standard (Full) size allotments of approximately 300 square yards each, but with the increasing demand for allotments the standard letting size has now been halved to approx. 150 square yards (Half).

The site has an elevation of approx. 300ft and commanding views over the Gordano Valley.  The site gently slopes in a ENE direction. The soil is fertile and clay based but needs to be worked when the moisture conditions are right.

There are currently some 50 plus members on this site. Membership for this site is not restricted to the Portishead parish and can include the Gordano villages.

For the last few years this allotment site has been entered into the RHS South West in Bloom, "It's Your Neighbourhood" section and been awarded "Outstanding" (the highest award) for more than eight successive years.

If you are already a tenant and have an allotment problem, then in the first instance please contact one of your site representatives who will be found on General >Management >Committee.

Current demand  You can put your name onto a waiting list. So be sure to keep us up-to-date with your contact details otherwise you could miss out. The Lettings year starts on April 1st.
